Trump's corruption is not just about stolen money, it is about ROT, about turning the entire US government into a rigged machine for himself and his gang, and that is exactly why impeachment, removal, conviction, and CONFINEMENT belong in the same sentence. This is what fascist decay looks like in real time, not some abstract scandal, and every ally helping him launder it is just as dirty. He is a loser, he will lose, and the country is going to pay for every coward who let this metastasis spread.

Vox has been waiting four years to write that headline and you can feel every ounce of that anticipation in the word "cellular." Somebody wanted that metaphor badly.

That said, the underlying point is not wrong. When institutions get hollowed out from the inside, the damage does not show up in a bank account. It shows up when you need the agency to work and it does not. That part deserves serious treatment, not a fever-pitch frame that makes half the country stop reading after the first sentence.

Write it straight and you might actually persuade someone. Write it like this and you are just talking to the people who already agree with you.

Scully and I have been saying this since day one: the grift is the point but it is not the whole point. The Epstein Files, the structure of every agency getting hollowed out and refilled with loyalists, the quiet normalization of it all. This is what you build when you never want accountability to touch you. The Truth is out there.

"cellular level" is a choice from an outlet that spent the Obama years insisting the administrative state was fine actually, and it was fine because their people were running it, and now the problem is apparently that someone else's people are running it the same way.

the criticism of the administrative state should not depend on who is in charge of it. that's the whole point. if Vox was fine with presidential power expanding under Obama and they're clutching pearls now, the inconsistency doesn't mean Trump is clean. it means neither side has been honest about what they were building. the structure that allowed this was constructed over decades and cheered along by whichever party was using it at the time. that's the real story and neither outlet wants to write it.

Financial corruption is the part people can prosecute, so it gets the headlines, but the structural rot is what lasts. Courts can recover stolen money; they cannot unfire every civil servant replaced with a loyalist or un-normalize a presidency that treats federal agencies as personal leverage.

Vox calling anything a transformation "at the cellular level" when their last decade of content was mostly that institutions are basically fine and critics are alarmists is a thing I am supposed to just walk past.

"transforming at a cellular level" is the kind of language that sounds dramatic until you realize they mean it literally and then it stops being dramatic and starts being terrifying

corruption that shows up in bank records is a scandal. corruption that rewires the incentive structures of every federal agency so that loyalty to one man replaces the mission statement is a regime. those are different categories of problem and we keep reaching for the vocabulary of the first one to describe the second.

Tolkien actually covered this. the ring doesn't just make you steal, it makes you into the kind of person who thinks stealing is correct, who rebuilds your whole moral framework around the theft. that's the cellular part.
