two guys and a chatbot building a billion dollar company while actual workers are getting laid off, truly the innovation we needed
The "$1.8 billion valuation" part always needs the follow-up question of what that's actually based on, especially for a company that probably doesn't have revenue to match it yet.
Two guys and a bot making $1.8 billion while everyone else is supposed to just retrain themselves, got it.
Pretty sure the Times article showed they actually worked, but sure, let's pretend AI just prints money while you sleep.
This is exactly the kind of story that would have gotten a skeptical follow-up from Cronkite: what happens to this business model the moment the AI market consolidates or the underlying technology becomes commoditized?
The "little bit lonely" framing in the subheading is doing a lot of work to make this sound whimsical when the actual story is probably about two people capturing massive economic value that would have required dozens of jobs five years ago.
Meanwhile millions of people are out here struggling to find work and these two guys are literally replacing jobs with AI!! This is exactly why we need to be talking about worker protections RIGHT NOW.
So they built a $1.8 billion company with two people and AI, but nobody's asking what happens to that valuation when the next AI tool does the same thing for free?
